Technology company commits to science-based climate targets

→ The Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) is setting the global benchmark for science-based climate targets.

→ SICK continues its long-standing and ambitious climate program by joining the SBTi.

→ SICK has been using green power at all of its German production locations since 2013. The international production locations will follow by the end of 2025.

SICK, an international supplier of sensor-based automation solutions, has joined the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi). In doing so, the technology company is committing itself to defining short-term emission targets in accordance with climate science. Having signed the so-called “SBTi Near-Term Commitments”, SICK is obligated to further reduce its greenhouse gas emissions over the next ten years. With this step, SICK is further expanding its longstanding commitment to sustainability. The com-pany was recently again awarded the EcoVadis Platinum seal.

Climate protection as business obligation and competitive advantage

By joining the SBTi, SICK is responding to customer and market requirements on transparency, climate protection and a sustainable supply chain. The SBTi certification creates trust, reduces risks in the value-adding chain, and strengthens competitiveness – for SICK and its business partners. Nicole Kurek, member of the Executive Board of SICK AG, emphasizes: “By joining the SBTi, we are demonstrating our entrepreneurial attitude to climate protection and declaring our support for this reliable, internationally recognized seal for sustainable business practices. In doing so, we are underscoring our dedication to being a responsible business partner that supports its customers in achieving their own sustainability targets with intelligent sensor solutions.”

Transparent environmental management

In addition to SBTi, SICK ensures, through audits and certifications, by signing

the UN Global Compact, and through assessments by the ESG rating institute EcoVadis, that ambitious targets are set and continuously verified. Having received the EcoVadis Platinum medal in 2024 and 2025, SICK is among the top 1 percent worldwide of all com-panies evaluated by EcoVadis.
